Project Spotlight

Project Spotlight highlights current information technology initiatives in the Government of Dane County, Wisconsin that expand services to citizens and save taxpayers money.

Printer Project Saves Energy, Ink, and Paper

A new project to upgrade and consolidate printers across the County will save an estimated 25% of printer costs. Older, outdated printers are being replaced with new, efficient models that use less toner and can take advantage of cheaper ink. Not only will it help reduce IT support costs, the new printers consume less power and produce less waste. Furthermore, employees will now print on both sides of paper which lowers paper costs and the environmental impact of doing business.

In addition to replacing printers, a study is being done to evaluate the need for printers at each location and whether leasing the printers would save money long term. Unnecessary printers will be removed and traffic to them re-routed. The reduced number of printers will save on hardware, maintenance costs, and energy.

This project is an example of the IT initiatives the Information Management Division has lead in past years to reduce IT costs while providing the same high level of service to Dane County employees and agencies. We will continue to strive for cost savings and process improvements that support our agencies and benefit our citizens.
